This Italian late 19th century quite large scale, impressive and profusely carved, solid parcel gilt walnut wood fireplace in the neo-Gothic style features eye-pleasing architectural details including twin fluted columns sculpted in the round, dog leg shaped opening and a molded mantle.
The frieze with central rectangular blocking featuring heavily carved flowers, rosette and leaf scrollwork is parcel gilt with gold leaves. Full rounded columns with carved capitals, wide nicely molded opening, useful wide mantle shelf and carved side panels enrich the shape of this Gothic Renaissance revival fireplace surround.
